The thermal spray industry is a rapidly growing market. It has grown from 3.5 billion in 1998 to well over 7.9 billion in today's market. Developed in the early 1900s, it was not until the 1960s that this technology started to find uses playing a big role in the Aerospace industry. Since then it has grown at an annual rate of 10% representing a significant portion of today's market. The history of thermal spray technology in its form goes back when flame spray torches were used for basic buildup. With the advent of high-end technology in the 80's, thermal spraying of sophisticated composites and processes were adopted by the Aerospace industry. This is where the growth has taken place in recent years. |
Alliance Surface Technologies has a unique niche in developing surface restoration solutions for industry specific applications. Utilizing advanced thermal spray technologies, AST's research team has developed a line of products called Thermal Cast@ products service a number of industries including Mining, Construction, Steel Mills, Engine components such as Crankshafts, Engine Blocks, Cylinder Heads and more ... Thermal Cast@ compared to welding is more efficient and twice as fast as AR plate replacement. AST has developed business models that will service various industries. The remote field applicator model is typically used when selling Thermal Cast@ to customers who have equipment that is difficult to move or where downtime is a factor. Generally, end users desire to have Thermal Cast@ coatings applied by certified sub-contractors thereby creating the need for the "solution provider". Solution providers can offer monthly maintenance contracts that would help spread the maintenance cost over a longer period of time, while giving the assurance that the equipment is protected. Also solution providers are especially equipped with welding, sand blast, and Thermal Coating equipment to transport the portable operation directly to the customer's location. This ability allows the solution provider to reduce downtime, lower cost and address projects that were unobtainable using past methods of application. |
